Short Stories

I do lots of fiction. Most of the time, it's in novels, and to be honest, my novels are too terrible for this place. Even so, I have played around with short stories a bit, mostly as a way to develop my novels. Here is the result of my experimentation. Enjoy!

Stand Still As I Stab Your Heart

This was written after a particularly brutal editing session between my novel and me. Watch out for minor language.

The Wolf Cries for Heaven

Possibly an emo story? Whatever! It's one of those weird poem/fiction things that landed here.

The Last Prophet

I'm not quite sure how this story happened. The first line just came in my head and I started to write. It's about a dead man awaiting an execution.

A Thousand Dancing Kites

This is a short story where I decided to make it as simple as I could. The result? Something pretty nifty!

For the Sake of a Child

This is a fanfic of a wonderful story by Henry Van Dyke called "The Other Wise Man." One of the chapters of that short book inspired me and I wanted to rewrite it. Here is my retelling!

What happened at the marketplace...

This was originally supposed to be a long, serious, dramatic, etc., piece, but let's just say it quickly turned into 248 word flash fiction piece.

How to Kill a Baby

As the name suggests, this might be a little controversial for some. With that said, this is an odd story that is about a woman who is trying to sell her baby.

A Pillar of Salt

This was based off a real event that I saw while going to chemistry class. It was... a strange thing to see for an outsider.

Petunia's Grove of Bluebirds

This was written based somewhat on a childhood memory I have, except not. It's about a girl who goes to see Charlie.

Philosophical Musings on Daytime TV

This was written when I was experimenting with another form of first person. In this case, I was thinking about God and the snake and wondering whether some people might consider the snake to be God... it's rather complicated. The story puts it in a much more digestable fashion. ^_^

A Love Letter

Okay, I'm trying to write a novel. With that said, it's hard going from third person to first person really easily. So I'm doing experiments. With that said, this is a mushy piece of sappy writing. Don't expect much from it. :P

Tarin and Naija

A short fantasy piece I wrote up! Well, actually it's not really fantasy. And it could be a lot longer, if I pushed it. Let's not though. :P

Musings of a Statue

Don't ask. This was one of those things where I decided that statues could talk. It's weird.

The Lady and the Unicorn

This was for my creative writing class, but was actually somewhat inspired, believe it or not, and one of my best short stories! It's about a woman who meets a unicorn after many many years. Check it out. :)

Pretty Poisoned Lady

This was my first historical fiction piece I did in at least five years! It was for a challenge on YWS and basically someone gave us a bunch of random dates and told us to write about it. This is my attempt. :)

The Uberduberjumerwoober

I meant this to be a sci-fi, but it ended up turning into a completely ridiculous story. Still, it is funny and sly.

Water

Just a writing excercise that turned out particularly well. Someone gave the word prompt of "water" and I had to write something about it within a certain amount of minutes. Light and humorous. ^_^

Straight A's and Smudged Mascara

Gah... this is in the same vein as the story below this, except that it contains no harsh language. With that said, it's very angsty and I don't quite like it. Why? Because it's about a perfectionist who is living in a very competetive environment. I suppose it just hits too close to home. :P Anyway, others enjoyed it a lot, so perhaps you will as well?

Knives, Blood, and YWS Poetry

Ah yes! YWS! This was inspired from one of my favorite writing sites, The Young Writer's Society. I was reading some of the poetry there, but instead of getting depressed, it had the reverse effect on me...

Jack

This was for a writing contest, and it actually won, believe or not. The contest? Write anything you want, as long as it has no e's. Because of that, this ended up being one of the harder pieces I've written. I am not quite sure I like this story, but many others do, so I suppose it's good.

Snoink is a 40 year old man...

This was one of the more fun pieces I wrote. I met with an online friend for the first time, and then, with a giggle, we began to talk about a ridiculous story. I don't think she expected this idea to ever be written down, but I wrote this for her anyway. :)

Daddy

No, this is not based on a true story. I just wanted to write a love story without the soppiness. I don't think I succeeded. Anyway, I was 17 when I wrote this.

Coming

A strange Christmas story I wrote when I was sixteen. It's not really into the holidays much and is actually rather dark.

Two Guys and a Girl

Yet another writing exercise when I was 16 years old. Can you use the words "Metamorphic Depasturization" in a story? Oh dear...

Christmas Time

Another writing exercise when I was 16 years old. This one actually turned out pretty well -- it's based on a true story set at a Christmas story.

Spatulas

During a writing exercise when I was 16 years old, the topic was, "Write something about spatulas." Okay? Here I go!

The Star Spangled Banner

This is a wonderful story that I did when I was 16 years old. It's creepy, strange, and rather bare, but if you look into it deep enough, the message will scare you. This is a piece that typically sums up my serious works - strange, moody, and bitter.

The Girl

I think I wrote this in fourteen when I was suffering from a disease known as teen angst. It's a short story about two girls walking their dogs together. Very simple, but I like it anyway.

The Midnight Duet

I wrote this when I was thirteen. It remains one of my favorite pieces I have ever written, and I can read it today with pleasure.

The Missing Shoe

This is also written around the time of Alvin Pinky, though definitely not as good. Even so, it's my first attempt at mystery, and it shows why I haven't pursued mystery again. ;)

Alvin Pinky

This was written when I was about 13 years old or so, and to be honest, it was a work of brilliance on my puny teenage braind. A funny, crazy comedy starring a strange man named Alvin Pinky.

The Mahatten Project

This was written when I just turned thirteen. We were doing a huge study on World War II, and I got to write a historical fictional short story. Anyway, I wrote this story on my mom's computer and forgot about it promptly. A couple of days later, my dad called me in because he thought I had plagierized the report! I was so mortified. But things were explained to him, and I realized I had a lot more talent in writing than I had supposed.

Looking for an Idea

According to the file, I wrote this January 16, 2001. So it's pretty bad too. But oh well! When this was written, I was in homeschool and I had to write something every day. This was written in a period of writer's block. As you'll notice, I was infatuated with Jack London at the time. :)

William and the Indian

According to the file, I wrote this November 1, 1999. So it's very old, as far as my writing goes. This one is particularly special to me since this is what inspired me to write. My dad read it and told me that one day I would be a writer. So what do you know? :D The story is about a man and an Indian. Or, to be more precise, a Native American. It's kind of bad...

Mr. Pig's Crazy Adventure

I'm not sure how old this is, but this is ancient as far as my writing goes. I think I may have written this in third grade. So, while it's funny for me, I imagine it would be intensely painful for you. Enjoy!
